The plot of the satirical comedy The Inspector by Nikolai Gogol combines the universal dramaturgical motif of "quiproquo" with the specific local motif of administrative inspection. The top leadership of a small Russian provincial town learns about the incognito arrival of an inspector from the capital.

As a result of bizarre coincidences, a petty official, "a wind whistle", named Ivan Aleksandrovich Khlestakov, is mistaken for a state controller.
Considered an inspector, he enjoys all the admiration and servility of servile officials.

Returning to N. Gogol's classic text, director Petru Vutcărău tries to modernize it and adapt it to the problems facing today's society. The play presents a demented world, in an advanced state of moral degradation, dominated by total corruption, administrative abuses, disorder and neglect. Who is to blame? Why is all this happening? And would Gogol be right, saying: "When God wants to punish you, he first takes your mind!"
