The central theme of this comedy is frustration within a couple’s relationship. It all begins in the Vallon family’s living room, where the Reille couple arrives — their son has struck Bruno Vallon in the face with a stick, knocking out two of his teeth. The conversation between the parents begins in a diplomatic and civilised manner, with an effort to maintain good manners and mutual respect. Gradually, however, everything descends into an aggressive confrontation, bringing to the surface all the discontents of married life.
